Enrichment and After-School Programs
Math Enrichment

LAMB enriches the math curriculum of the elementary levels through prepared materials that are given to students as homework assignments. Parents are brought into the equation through bilingual workshops which provide information and demonstrations on assisting their children. LAMB expects that elementary students will achieve math competence and excel in a math program that has been enriched at all levels: parent teacher communication, targeted homework for students, and parent student interaction around homework.
After School Tutoring Program
After-school tutoring was designed to address and maximize student’s capacity for individual academic achievement in grades K-4. The program is offered twice a week. Tutors work with students individually or in small groups on reading, writing, and/or math activities based on the recommendations of their classroom teacher and/or their Student Support Teams.
Before and After Care
INNIS, a certified daycare provider, offers before and after care at the school for those parents who need an extended day schedule. Before care runs from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and after care runs from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Contact INNIS directly to apply for extended care and to obtain cost. Call Michelle Marbury at 301.589.5555.
Science Club
The club is designed to stimulate interest in science and to offer a space where children, who are not interested in science or are not achieving, can actually see science “come alive.” Science is messy, mucky and magical—the perfect mix to make it fun for children!
LAMB Griot Storytelling Project
The Latin American Montessori Bilingual Public Charter School (LAMB) is participating in an oral history project to honor our student’s ancestors. Students record the oral histories of their family or extended family members for a future exhibit at LAMB and a preservation project to be achieved at the Martin Luther
King, Jr. Memorial Library in the Washingtoniana Collection.
Bard College Clemente Course
LAMB wishes to open its doors to members of the community and bring them into the LAMB family. This spring, LAMB will collaborate with Bard College in offering a one year humanities course to adults. We will actively recruit from the Brightwood neighborhood to identify qualifying parents and other community residents for enrollment.
In a typical course, 25 students will spend 32 weeks reading and discussing great works of literature, and exploring great works of art. Bard College grants a certificate of achievement to any student completing the course and six college credits to students completing it at a high level of academic performance.
For those participants wishing to pursue higher education, LAMB will assist them identifying options. Contact Diane Cottman, Executive Director or Susan Wilson, Director of Development for additional information or to obtain an application.
