Alphabet Soup - AYP DC CAS - What does it all mean?
Forty-seven (47) LAMB students, third to fifth grade, took the DC Comprehensive Assessment Exam, better known as the DC CAS Test in the Spring of 2011. Now, as the new school year begins, LAMB is faced with making sure that it has interventions in place to address those areas that need strengthening based on test results and continue to reach high performance levels in those subjects where students do well. All of this LAMB must do while maintaining its core Montessori values and motivating students to have fun while learning. An equally big task is explaining the many acronyms linked to testing and why anybody should care about what they mean.
LAMB Opens Second Campus
The DC Public Charter School Board approved LAMB's request to increase its enrollment ceiling and open a second campus at the Michigan Park Church located at 1600 Taylor Street, NE.
Amidst tears and laughter, eighty primary students, 3-and 4-years-old began the school year at LAMB's new campus. Many children had their lunchboxes and pantuflas, bedroom slippers, the first day of school and were eager to begin the school year. Still others had to be pried away from tearful parents to begin their journey to independence.
No matter how you look at it, they were the lucky ones. Montessori, quality, dual language immersion, and public education equals great demand. Of the 525 + families on the waiting list for admission during school year 2011-2012, there were slots available for 80 students. And, those slots only became available because of the addition of a second campus.
¡Buena suerte a todos! Let's have a great year!
