Welcome!

Thank you for visiting the Latin American Montessori Bilingual (LAMB) Public Charter School's web page. Our goal is to provide information about our school, its academic philosophy and mission and how to get involved.

As a charter school, LAMB is free and open to all District of Columbia residents. LAMB is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges & Schools Commission on Elementary Schools, grades PK3-Grade 4, for a seven year term. In 2008-2009, LAMB has 145 students in preschool (3-, 4- and 5-year-olds) through 4th grade. The school will add a new grade each year. Next school year, LAMB will have 171 students. LAMB will expand to 6th Grade by 2011.

Students at LAMB work together in multi-age classrooms using a hands-on Montessori dual language immersion approach (English and Spanish). Half of LAMB's students come from Spanish language dominant families and half are from non-Spanish language dominant families. LAMB is the only dual-language Montessori public charter school in Washington, D.C., and one of just a handful in the United States.

LAMB students use Montessori materials that are developmentally appropriate, self-correcting, and ordered from simple to complex. Students will learn, master, and be able to apply academic content in language arts, mathematics, and science in two languages.

LAMB is located at 1375 Missouri Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. 20011
